Two of Murfreesboro’s most well known and respected surgical groups have merged. Mid-State Surgery and Murfreesboro Surgical Specialists announced their merger this week.
The groups hope the merger will streamline and improve their practice, saying in a joint statement that their driving force is to “improve patient care, reduce operating expenses, and increase their ability to meet the needs of their patients.”
The new surgical group encompasses General Surgeon Dr. Mark Akins, General Surgeon Dr. Stephen Rich, General and Colorectal Surgeon Dr. John Whitfield, and General and Bariatric Surgeon Dr. Wayne Westmoreland, all members of the Stones River Regional Independent Physicians’ Association.
Westmoreland said that he’s proud of the two practices for coming together to focus on their commitment to patient care.
“Murfreesboro Surgical Specialists carefully evaluate the best ways to deliver quality healthcare to patients in Rutherford County,” he said.
The physicians will be operating under the name Murfreesboro Surgical Specialists and will be located at 1800 Medical Center Parkway in Suite 440 next to St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro.
